Colorado Technical University’s Master of Science in Computer Science degree program gives students the opportunity to advance their knowledge of core computer science skills to help them prepare as leaders and change agents in their chosen industry. The MSCS curriculum is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of operating systems, network architecture, and software system engineering processes.

Concentrations
  1. Database systems: The Database Systems concentration provides the opportunity to attain education competencies necessary to effectively analyze, design, implement and optimize complex data repositories and to transform data into powerful information systems for business.
  2. General computer science: The Master of Science in Computer Science general concentration is designed for professionals focused on building an advanced understanding of industry-relevant technology issues facing today’s organizations. Coursework challenges students to master topics related to operating systems and networking, their knowledge of computer system architecture and the software system engineering process.
  3. Computer system security: This concentration presents an overview of computer systems security, and is designed to offer the opportunity to attain education competencies in developing a security policy, formulating an implementation plan, designing and implementing security measures and monitoring and managing computer systems security.
  4. Software engineering: The Software Engineering concentration is designed to provide the opportunity to attain education competencies in the organization and control of software development and the use of industry-recognized software engineering techniques to successfully deliver software systems requiring a multi-person effort.

Admission requirements According to Colorado Technical University, to be eligible for admission to the Master of Computer Science program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Bachelors degree earned with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) from any United States institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or from internationally recognized foreign institutions of higher education.
  • International institutions must be licensed or officially recognized by the Education Department or Ministry of the country where the institution is in operation to be eligible for transfer of credit or degree status.
