Program Description

Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science program, delivered online, that teaches students how to discover groundbreaking solutions to complex technology challenges. The program focuses on new system designs that incorporate emerging technology and prepares students to be at the forefront of computer science discovery. The program is designed to help students discover groundbreaking solutions to complex technology challenges and develop expertise in areas such as security and assurance, artificial intelligence, computer architecture, and advanced programming.

The program also features in-person immersive learning experiences that allow students to meet and collaborate with their peers, learn from guest speakers who are industry experts, and participate in collaborative, hands-on workshops.

Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science has been designated by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) since 2001 and as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research (CAE-R) since 2009.

Through cutting-edge research, curricular innovations, and multidisciplinary collaboration, the College of Engineering and Computer Science is addressing challenges such as protecting our cyber systems, regenerating human tissues, providing clean water supplies, pursuing energy-efficient solutions, and securing data within wireless systems.

Curriculum

Through a curriculum that places an emphasis on mathematical evaluation, the M.S. in Computer Science program prepares students to:

Admission Requirements and Deadlines

Undergraduate Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Core competencies in discrete mathematics, calculus, data structures, programming (C++), and computer organization are recommended.

Test Scores and GRE Waiver Requirements

Official GRE scores or an expected test date is required for all applicants with an undergraduate GPA under 3.0. Applicants may be eligible for a GRE waiver if they satisfy any of the following:

  • Four or more years of prior professional full-time work experience in a technical or related field
  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater, with a quantitative or technical relevant degree, from an accredited U.S. institution
  • Graduated in good standing from a relevant Syracuse University undergraduate degree program
  • Previous master’s degree

Applicants must submit official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a current business resume or CV.
